Cathy Bissell has always had a passion for animals, but actually walking into a shelter is something she avoided for most of her life.
“I never went into a shelter until 12 years ago,” she said. “I wouldn’t go because it was heartbreaking and I was afraid that I would live with the pain of seeing shelter pets stuck in cages.”
Cathy thought her photography could be used to let people see the animals that still needed a second chance and that meant she had to walk into a place she feared her heart would hurt the most.
“I saw these wonderful faces and I took pictures of them up close and got to pet them and that’s really kind of the turning point,” Cathy told 7 Action News. “And then I brought my first shelter dog home and that was just life-changing for me.”
