Welcome to The Creature Conservancy!
Did you know that an alligator started it all? One summer morning in 2005, our founder, Steve Marsh, found a big surprise on a veterinary clinic’s doorstep—a wooden box with a real, live alligator inside! This wasn’t just any alligator; it was a 42-inch-long pet named Al, who needed a new home. After talking to animal rescue groups, Steve realized that many exotic animals like Al are abandoned or need new homes when their owners can’t care for them anymore. That’s when The Creature Conservancy was born! Today, we take care of over 400 animals from about 100 different species, giving them a safe place to live and helping people learn about them.
Caring for Our Animal Friends
At The Creature Conservancy, our animals are like family! We make sure they have healthy food, comfy places to live, and lots of love from our animal experts. Each animal’s diet is carefully planned, and veterinarians help keep them strong and happy. Some animals were once pets, while others were rescued from the wild because they couldn’t survive on their own. No matter where they came from, every animal gets a cozy home and lots of fun things to do, like toys, puzzles, and activities that keep their minds busy!

We love sharing our amazing animals with you! Our goal is to teach people about conservation and how to care for the world’s incredible creatures. During the week, we host summer camps, school field trips, and special visits. On weekends, we open our doors so families can meet the animals up close, watch exciting live presentations, and even chat with our zookeepers. Every month, we feature new animals on our Stone Stage, where you can see them in action and hear their fascinating stories!

There’s always something fun happening at The Creature Conservancy! We host cool events throughout the year where kids and adults can learn, play, and get to know our animals better. Whether it’s a hands-on experience with a sloth, watching a porcupine enjoy a snack, or seeing a parrot show off its smarts, there’s always a new adventure waiting for you. We make sure every visit is packed with fun and discovery—because learning about animals should be exciting!
