The Belle Isle Art Fair returns August 4-5 with some favorites and some new surprises. The fair has grown to over 100 juried artists from twenty states and includes all mediums from painting to sculpture, prints to jewelry.
“This is one of the most beautiful locations you can imagine to view artwork. Our goal is to have people take home some of the beauty and serenity reflected in art.” said event coordinator Mark Loeb. “ The fine art fair will highlight the quiet delights, sense of tranquility and wellbeing that many people find on the island park in the Detroit River.”
The fair is set in a circle, avoiding the straight lines of downtown shows. The more organic approach helps to emphasise the relaxed atmosphere.
The artists are joined by the DIA, Pewabic Pottery and Arts and Scraps, each of which will provide additional experiences for the attendees. Food trucks, specialty foods and a beer tent help to round out the offerings.
Returning this year are some signature elements including the Heritage Tent introduced last year. “Our Heritage Tent provides a way for older artists to continue their art fair participation. At some point it becomes too much to lug tents and displays across the country. This group tent, complete with hanging walls and support helps these artists to continue their career. It also allows patrons to meet some amazing artists that they would never see otherwise.”
Last year the fair also introduced a theater tent. Half a dozen of the areas theater groups will offer previews, tickets specials and more. It’s a great way to find out about the coming season.
Mint Artists Guild is also back with amazing teen artists selling their art to the public.

Those biking or taking the bus are not required to purchase a State Park Passport, while those in cars are required to have them. (Passports cost $11 for Michigan residents and $9 daily for out of state visitors). The resident passport is valid for a year and can be used at over 100 state parks.
The Belle Isle Art Fair is being created and produced by Integrity Shows of Detroit. Integrity Shows, led by Loeb, produces the Palmer Park Art Fair and the Funky Ferndale Art Fair. They have been producing and assisting with events and festivals in Detroit since 1982.
