Sept. 8,9,10, 11 – Lone Ranger, Diego Rivera, Julie Harris

The Lone Ranger, Diego Rivera and Julie Harris featured in original mini-dramas. Grosse Pointe Historical Society and Grosse Pointe Theatre present Talking Headstones, September 8, 9, 10 and 11 at historic St. Paul Cemetery.

The fourth annual Talking Headstones features all new works that focus on Grosse Pointers from the 1910s to the 1940’s. This year audiences will see dramatizations about:
· the death of the Lone Ranger (featuring former Grosse Pointe Farms police chief Joseph Tromble)
· the shock over Diego Rivera‘s mural commissioned by Edsel Ford
· a young Julie Harris‘s thirst for acting
· a World War II love story (featuring Lawrence Kennedy, former Grosse Pointe school administrator)
· the beginning of the Grosse Pointe Historical Society (with Ellen Probert, one of its founders)
· the flu pandemic from World War I (featuring the Boone family), and
· a dramatic episode during World War I involving the Van Tiem family.

If you have not had the pleasure of seeing previous years’ productions of Talking Headstones, this is your opportunity to get a glimpse of Grosse Pointe’s past in this collaboration between the Grosse Pointe Historical Society and Grosse Pointe Theatre.

An outdoor stage will be lit by hurricane lamps and torches for the four performances on September 8, 9, 10 and 11, 8:00 p.m., in historic St. Paul Cemetery on Moross Road at Country Club Lane in Grosse Pointe Farms.

General Admission is $15, but only $10.00 for members of Grosse Pointe Theatre and members of Grosse Pointe Historical Society. Free parking is available behind Grosse Pointe United Methodist Church across the street. Attendees are asked to bring their own chair and to wear appropriate clothing for the weather. Flash lights are also recommended for exiting the grounds, since there is no electric lighting in the cemetery.
