The first three of 92 homes targeted for rehabilitation as part of a $14 million development project in Detroit’s Fitzgerald neighborhood are shined up and ready for sale.

New windows, floor, paint, walls brickwork, furnaces, counters and energy-efficient appliances are among the upgrades made to the once derelict and forgotten blemishes in the otherwise vibrant neighborhood.

The first three homes to hit the market are:

  • 16230 Lilac, $90,000, is a three-bedroom, one-bathroom, 1,159-square-foot, two-story home with a basement and no garage.
  • 16770 Tuller Street, $55,000, is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom, 784-square-foot ranch-style home with a basement and no garage.
  • 16557 San Juan Drive, $65,000, is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom, 1,750-square-foot, two-story home with a basement and no garage.

Ambitious project seeks to renovate 92 homes at once in Detroit neighborhood

Residents of Detroit’s Fitzgerald neighborhood, who’ve endured expanding blight, crime, population loss and property value decline since the 1960s, will soon be rewarded for the sticking around and keeping the neighborhood alive

The public may tour the homes during an open house from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8.

Buyers must make an annual salary of 80 percent or less of the median household income, $39,760 per year for a single person, $45,440 per year for two, $52,120 per year for a family of three and $56,720 per year for a family of four.
