Oakland County communities recognized for efforts devoted to energy efficiency and sustainability

Five Oakland County communities were recently honored for their commitment to sustainability projects, from green infrastructure improvements to renewable energy projects. The annual statewide Michigan Green Communities Network Challenge, launched in 2009, allows communities to better benchmark community sustainability progress by creating initiatives that promote energy efficient, green projects. The network is a partnership of the Michigan Municipal League, Michigan Association of Counties, and Michigan Townships Association with a purpose to connect community leaders through training, education, and communications. In 2016 the program was relaunched with support from the C.S. Mott Foundation with added benefits including creating roadmaps for sustainability initiatives and the motivation of comparing and competing with other Michigan communities. As part of the Michigan Green Communities Challenge, participating local governments were awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze certifications.
