Murals by three Detroit artists are part of a new campaign launched to “celebrate the soul of Detroit and elevate the voices of artists in the community.”
The murals were to be unveiled Monday and reference elements of Detroit that make the city the culture hub that it is: music, Coney dogs, cars and Black women, the artists say.
One of the murals, by Detroiter Sydney James, features a Black woman gazing at the viewer — paintbrush in hand, Old English “D” earring in lobe, Afro standing tall.
