A Michigan man, near Grand Rapids, recently discovered that the rock he had been using as a doorstop for years was actually a meteorite valued at at least $100,000.
Mona Sirbescu of Central Michigan University examined the 22-pound rock and determined the rock was not of this world.
Several institutions, including the Smithsonian, are interested in buying the meteorite to display.
The owner has promised to donate 10 percent of the sale value to Central Michigan’s earth and atmospheric science departments.
