A free camp situated in northern Michigan has been established to provide children with cancer and their families an opportunity to relish the outdoors. Bikes and Battle Buddies, a veterans’ organization, is currently raising funds for the camp. Anthony Jurich mentioned that it is an effortless endeavor to get bikers together for a cause, particularly if it involves children. Lisa Keck Kujawa, the founder of the non-profit organization Golden Key Charity in Taylor, stated that they aim to send a family on a day or week vacation through their “Michigan wishes for Michigan kids” campaign.
For over ten years, Golden Key Charity has been fulfilling the wishes of children who are battling cancer or other life-threatening illnesses. The charity has granted wishes such as sending Trista, who has been battling cancer since she was 2, on a trip to Muskegon. Reece went to Frankenmuth with her service animal, a fox, while Makeala, whose leg had to be amputated, received a Golden Key getaway to Traverse City.
While it is challenging to work in a charity that deals with terminally ill children, Kujawa believes that hope is the key, which is why she procured a 55-acre youth camp in Gladwin called Golden Key Camp to offer a free vacation spot to sick children and their families. However, the camp requires renovation, starting with a new commercial kitchen, which is what the biking event is raising money for. AM Leather, owned by Elizabeth and Al Russom on Middlebelt Road in Romulus, is hosting the ride, and registration is just $20.
The bikers will begin the ride at noon and be back by 1:15 p.m. Hopefully, the biking event will attract many people and tug at some heartstrings, enabling the camp to come to fruition.
