As malls across the country undergo transformations to stay relevant, struggling Lakeside Mall might get its own makeover from a Miami developer that’s proposing a massive revamp of the Macomb County shopping center.
Sterling Heights City Council is expected to vote at its meeting Tuesday on Lionheart Capital’s proposal to turn the 110-acre site into “Lakeside City Center,” a mixed-use development that would include residences, parks, a hotel and office space, as well as retail and dining space, city officials said Friday. The firm says the transformation could provide an estimated $1 billion to the region over the next decade.
