JCC’s Pitt Child Development Center and Day Camps Earn National Accreditation

Programs recognized among the top in the nation by earning accreditation

The Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit’s Sarah & Irving Pitt Child Development Center (Pitt CDC) and JCC Day Camps have again been honored with accreditation from two of the country’s leading organizations that advocate on behalf of children.

The Pitt CDC received accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and JCC Day Camps received accreditation from the American Camp Association (ACA).

NAEYC accreditation is a rigorous system that uses a set of 10 standards to recognize and drive quality-improvement in learning environments. The Pitt CDC received top marks in all categories, including perfect scores in four of these. Less than 10 percent of all child-care centers, preschools and kindergartens nationwide achieve NAEYC accreditation, which continues for five years.

JCC Day Camps received renewed accreditation from the ACA, awarded only after a camp has undergone an evaluation that guarantees compliance with up to 300 safety, health and other quality standards that range from programming content to food supervision. Established in 1910, ACA accreditation, also extending for five years, guarantees not only that a camp meets industry regulations but that it complies with government standards.

“JCC Day Camps and Pitt CDC staff members do an outstanding job of making certain that children have every opportunity to grow and learn, that they are well-cared for, challenged and happy,” said Brian D. Siegel, CEO of the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit. “Anyone who has worked with children understands that it is the best, and most demanding responsibility in the world. The prestigious recognition that both of these programs have received illustrates the JCC’s commitment to excellence and to delivering products of the highest quality.”

Located at 6600 W. Maple Road, both the Pitt CDC and JCC Day Camps are open to the entire community and offer programming throughout the year. More information about these and other JCC programs can be found by visiting jccdet.org or calling 248.661.1000.
