Inside The Stylish New Hotel Revitalizing Downtown Detroit

Upon entering the newly-opened Shinola Hotel in downtown Detroit, you’ll notice the absence of a standard staid lobby. Instead, you’ll be greeted with what the property – an exciting partnership between the American lifestyle brand and Bedrock, a local real estate firm – has dubbed it’s living room. Spacious, sophisticated, and flooded with natural light, the inviting space is kitted out with a wood-fired fireplace, barrel ceilings, punchy-colored couches, bookcases, and quirky art curated by the city’s own Library Street Collective.

As the name implies, the living room is well-suited for any task, whether it’s working – plugging in is a breeze, thanks to the impossibly chic power strips, a collaboration by GE and Shinola – meeting a friend, or simply kicking back with a book. In short? This is what all living rooms should feel like: seamlessly versatile and always comfortable.

“This whole hotel feels like a home,” explains Tom Forrest, Director of Community Relations at Shinola, of the hotel’s cozy (yet super stylish) vibes, that extend way beyond the living room.
