Adachi

While Detroit-area chefs have been showing up on the James Beard Foundation Awards’ shortlists, few have made it past the semifinal round and even fewer have gone on to win. That makes the entry of Boston-based chef Michael Schlow — a JBF winner for Best Chef: Northeast in 2000 — one to watch. For his first Michigan project, Schlow has partnered with two local real estate developers and recruited a pedigreed chef to bring sushi and Japanese-inspired plates to the old Peabody Mansion in Birmingham. Adachi Executive Chef Lloyd Roberts’ resume is fitting for the spot — the Jamaican-born chef trained under culinary luminaries Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Nobu Matsuhisa before landing in Birmingham. The new restaurant made its dinner-only debut Aug. 17, but lunch and brunch will be added in the coming weeks.
