Companies aim to make the city of Detroit grow again.
Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit’s Green Works has teamed up with Detroit Dirt to improve the city’s community resources with biodegradable compost material that supports healthy plant growth. The two organizations are working towards a shared mission of creating a complete circle of life in Detroit. This Detroit compost is now available for purchase in Shinola stores.
Goodwill’s Green Works offers cost-saving, environmentally friendly asset recovery services for businesses. With the offered services and commitment to the city, Detroit Dirt and Green Works identified the partnership opportunity to ensure the compost material or worm castings would be properly packaged in decomposable boxes.
“The partnership we have formed with Pashon Murray and the Detroit Dirt organization is one we look forward to continuing,” said Dan Varner, Goodwill Detroit’s CEO. “We are honored to work alongside Detroit Dirt and appreciate Shinola’s ongoing commitment to helping the city grow.”
Detroit Dirt is a compost business advocating an urban farming movement by regenerating waste into the resources that will reshape Detroit. Compost is a beneficial resource that helps improve soils, which ultimately supports healthier and more productive plants. Committed to the vision of lowering transportation costs, reducing environmental footprint, creating businesses, developing neighborhoods and installing pride, Detroit Dirt strives to help Detroit learn more about self-sustainability.
“Our main focus is to turn forgotten parcels of land in Detroit into urban farms that not only feed, but revitalize our community,” said Murray, Founder of Detroit Dirt. “Goodwill’s Green Works is the best match to help us package and deliver our compost, as they are also working to keep our community green by diverting waste from landfills.”
Shinola will be selling this premium fertilizer in their stores until May 14. For more information, visit Shinola.com.
