Title: Before The Storm
Biddle Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of oil paintings by Detroit area artist Donald Cronkhite. The exhibition will open on Friday, September 30, 2011, and will continue through November 30. There will be a reception with the artist on Saturday, October 1st from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. All twelve oil paintings in this exhibition are for sale. Cronkhite’s large-scale paintings capture cloud formations in the moments before a storm, focusing on form, color, and contrast.
His contemporary handling of a traditional subject matter conjures scenes of wild beauty with great depth of feeling. Though the pieces are powerful in scale, they require close examination to observe all the variations in color and tone. Simultaneously realistic and abstract, the pieces offer much to the contemplative viewer.
Donald Cronkhite has exhibited in galleries in metro-Detroit, Chicago, New York, and San Antonio.
