ChristianEvents4Detroit.com collects and lists events of interest to Christians in the Michigan counties of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Monroe. Many of the events are provided by the Christian Information Network. Pick up your copy of Events magazine at an area bookstore, Christian Library, college and at many churches. Web site visitors submit some of the events. There’s a tab on the home page for submitting events. Other events are collected from various sources like newsletters, flyers and newspapers. Putting us on your mailing list is an easy way to submit your organization’s events.
Dated events are listed without charge as a service to the community. We select events that appear to be in keeping with Christian values.
Advertisers cover the finances. We hope you appreciate knowing what organizations support the promotion of Christian-like activities. We also hope you will find products and services here that are useful to you.
As we collect events, we’re learning why people look at them. Some of us are looking for something to do.
Others look to have a sense of what our community is doing. We feel like we’re included when we’re aware of community events, even if we don’t attend – and we sure like that sense of belonging.
Either way – whether we look at events to attend, or to get a sense of belonging, good for us.
Why? Why is it good that we enjoy looking at events? Because it demonstrates that our perspective is broader than our own family, club or church. And that’s good because it indicates we are, in some measure, accepting of the broader population.
Doesn’t that reflect God’s capacity to be accepting? In our quest to be like God, aren’t we striving to love the whole world?
It’s a good thing we want to be in-the-know about community events because it helps us identify with brothers and sisters across geography and organizations and cultures. It puts muscle into our claims that we love one another.
