Coriander Kitchen and Farm, one of Detroit’s most anticipated restaurants, opens Saturday, March 6, for outdoor dining and takeout. Despite being allowed to reopen for indoor dining at 50 percent capacity, owners Gwen Meyer and Alison Heeres plan to hold off on allowing people to dine inside until it is “safer to do so.”
Located in the former Fisherman’s Marina in Jefferson Chalmers, seating is currently first-come, first-served at picnic tables on the canal-side patio, with reserved seating around the fire pits. People can also order online for takeout from the restaurant.
Meyer and Heeres teamed up in 2014 to start their business and operated a small farm and catering business with seasonal pop-ups hosted by Detroit River Sports. The pair were finalists in the Hatch Detroit competition in 2016. Following a successful Patronicity campaign launched in 2019, Meyer and Heeres kicked off a total renovation on the Fisherman’s Marina space. Coriander Kitchen opened for outdoor seating last summer with a food truck parked on the patio while construction continued inside.
