New Partnership Harnesses Power Of Media During Important Conversations About Michigan’s Future
WIXOM, Mich. (May 25, 2011) -Detroit Public Television (DPTV) announces details of the first-ever extensive live coverage of the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Mackinac Policy Conference, designed to deliver the highest level of access to content in Conference history. The 2011 Conference will be held June 1st-3rd on Mackinac Island, Mich.
DPTV will live broadcast, live webcast and produce other content from the Conference and make it available via multiple television channels and Web platforms, so the public can experience the significant discussion of the most important issues facing Michigan. All content will also be offered, at no cost, to any public or commercial broadcast outlet, as well as all other news organizations, in Michigan, to make coverage of the Conference as accessible as possible, in partnership with the Detroit Regional Chamber.
Viewers can watch coverage of the Conference from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on June 1st, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on June 2nd and from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on June 3rd. The coverage will be broadcast in Metro Detroit on DPTV’s Channel 56.2 for over-the-air viewers, Channel 287 on Comcast, Channel 155 on Brighthouse and Channel 432 on Charter. The same coverage will stream live on the MiVote.org website and on many commercial news organizations’ websites. The MiVote.org website will also feature edited segments of Conference sessions and “Leaders On Demand” interviews with newsmakers at the Conference, as well as social media interaction.
At 7:30 p.m. on June 1st, 2nd and 3rd, DPTV will broadcast a half-hour Conference wrap-up program. It can be seen on DPTV’s main television channel, WTVS-TV Channel 56 in Metro Detroit and also on every public television station across Michigan (check local listings for times).
Veteran Michigan television journalist Christy McDonald will anchor the coverage, which will also feature DPTV hosts Detroit News Editorial Page Editor Nolan Finley and Detroit Free Press Editorial Page Editor Stephen Henderson.
Through its MiVote.org project, Detroit Public Television is seeking to engage more citizens than ever in meaningful discussions about Michigan’s future. The Chamber believes DPTV’s focus on issues makes them an ideal partner for the Conference.
