Detroit Institute of Arts offers free admission on Mother’s Day

The Detroit Institute of Arts is offering free admission on Mother’s Day.

A series of performances and classes are planned Sunday as part of the museum’s special exhibition: “Dance: American Art 1830-??1960.”

The Detroit Institute of Arts’ newest exhibit “Dance! American Art 1830-1960” will open this Sunday, March 20.

Tickets to the special exhibit are normally $10 for Metro Detroit residents and $14 for visitors from outside Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties, but admission will be free Sunday.

The exhibit features over 90 paintings, sculptures, photographs and costumes, and a dancing area for visitors to let loose.

The subject matter includes dances of indigenous North Americans, the history of African American dance and internationally-famous female dancers.

The DIA also plans to offer free admission May 18 in observance of Art Museum Day.
