Puffs of feathers floated loose into the air from the top perch of a tree near the Belle Isle Aquarium on Sunday morning.
Donna and Mike Murray tipped back to look. Through their binoculars, the pair had a close view of what sent the feathers flying — a voracious falcon diving into its latest kill, a house sparrow snatched from the air minutes before.
The unexpected feast turned out to be the highlight of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ monthly Birding Belle Isle field trip.
