Dentists on wheels rolling through Oakland County with new health partnership

A new mobile dental unit will soon begin touring the county to provide preventative oral care to underserved populations.

The Healthy Smiles Mobile Unit, a 38-foot RV retrofitted into a multi-chair dental office, has already seen 835 patients this year. The traveling dentist’s office is a joint partnership between the federally qualified health center Honor Community Health and the Delta Dental Foundation, which provided $500,000 to purchase and renovate the unit.

The mobile unit will be run by staff from Honor Community Health’s Joslyn Smile Center, including Dr. Terrence Haynes, DDS, dental director of the center. Patients will be able to receive oral cancer screenings, routine dental screenings, sealants, flouride treatments and x-rays.
