As the Metro Detroit cultural landscape continues to evolve, connecting art and cultural centers with the community is key to staying relevant. CultureSource, the alliance of arts and culture non-profits in southeast Michigan, is facilitating a dialogue onTuesday, May 3, to discuss how the arts and culture sector is developing innovative ways to connect with diverse audiences, forging new partnerships, and collaborating with for-profit business, civic and education entities in order to cultivate a more dynamic and engaged region.
From 5-7 p.m., leaders from various cultural institutions will convene at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) for a panel discussion (moderated by Stephen Henderson of the Detroit Free Press, DPTV and WDET) Panelists include:
- Salvador Salort-Pons, director, DIA
- Paul Hogle, executive vice president, Detroit Symphony Orchestra
- Ron Kagan, executive director and CEO, Detroit Zoological Society
- Patricia Mooradian, president, The Henry Ford
- Wayne Brown, president and CEO, Michigan Opera Theatre
“As Detroit continues to transform and evolve, it is important that arts and culture is at the fore of the growth conversation. CultureSource is pleased to connect these panelists for the first of many conversations, ensuring our collective impact will continue to reach beyond institutional walls,” said Pamela Iacobelli, president and CEO of CultureSource.
During the May 3 event, panelists will discuss the challenges facing today’s traditional museum, performance and education institutions. From the current state of the sector to opportunities to connect with diverse audiences, each panelist will share a unique perspective from the various arts, music and cultural organizations represented. There also will be an opportunity for audience Q&A following the panel discussion.
CultureConversations, sponsored by Apparatus Solutions, Inc. and the MASCO Foundation, will be held in the Marvin & Betty Danto Lecture Hall in the DIA, followed by a reception in Kresge Court.
