City of Rochester presents “Good Neighbor Award”

The City Beautiful Commission (CBC) recently announced the winner of the 1 st Quarter Good Neighbor Award is Rochester residents Nancy Hill, Margaret Shepard and Sarah Zowada.

The Good Neighbor Award program was created by the CBC to allow residents of Rochester to nominate an adult or youth for their good neighbor work. The award recognizes the ongoing efforts of Rochester residents who are making exceptional contributions to improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods. The program is designed to honor those who make a difference in our community without seeking or receiving recognition for their service.

Nancy Hill, Margaret Shepard and Sarah Zowada were nominated by City Mayor Cathy Daldin “because they set a wonderful example for all of us.” According to the nomination from the Mayor, “Week in and week out, we the members of the city council are here to represent, support and reflect the will

and wishes of the citizens of Rochester. We do this simply because we want

to give back to our community. Well, week after week, there is another group

of people who are here, rain or shine, to support us, stay informed on what is

going on in the city. And, at the same time hand-craft some pretty wonderful

and warm things to wear.”

“I am of course talking about the Rochester Knitting Club – a group of curious,

concerned and engaged citizens who have taken their hobby and turned it

into a fun and creative way to stay in touch with what is happening in our

hometown. They set a wonderful example for all of us. If more people could

stay connect the way they do, it would make our jobs on the council so much

easier.”

And, even though they have in the past shared some of their wonderful wares

with all of us here on the council, I assure you they are lobbying for nothing

more than to be enlightened citizens.”

The Rochester City Beautiful Commission was proud to present these well

deserving individuals with the award at the March 27 th City Council meeting.

If you know someone who goes the extra mile to keep our city beautiful or

helps a neighbor in need and feel this person deserves to be recognized for

their contribution in the city, then fill out a nomination form and turn it in, it is

that easy! Our city is beautiful because of the many good neighbors who

continually go above and beyond! It is time to recognize those who make

every day in Rochester a more beautiful day.
