The City of Sterling Heights invites veterans, their families, and community members to join the annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, at 11 a.m. The event will be held in the courtyard between Sterling Heights City Hall and the Police Department, adjacent to the Marco “Mike” Adragna Veterans Memorial Garden. This year’s ceremony will include the unveiling of the first Gulf War Memorial in Sterling Heights, a meaningful addition to the Veterans Memorial Garden that honors the courage and sacrifices of those who served in the Gulf War, War in Afghanistan, and War in Iraq.
“We gather each Veterans Day to honor those who have selflessly defended our country’s freedom,” said Mayor Michael C. Taylor. “This year, we’re proud to unveil the new Gulf War Memorial, an addition that further recognizes the sacrifices made by our veterans in recent conflicts. Sterling Heights remains committed to ensuring our veterans are remembered and appreciated, and this monument serves as a testament to our gratitude.”
The ceremony will feature remarks from Mayor Taylor, veterans, and city officials and a 21-gun salute by the Sterling Heights Police Honor Guard. Emceed by 41-A District Court Judge Stephen Sierawski, the ceremony will offer a chance for the community to come together in tribute to the bravery and dedication of Sterling Heights veterans.
This new Gulf War Memorial features embedded ceramic tiles with QR codes, providing visitors with access to in-depth information on each conflict. The memorial also includes bronze medallions representing each branch of the United States military, serving as a lasting tribute to the service members who defended our nation in recent conflicts.
Attendees are invited to enjoy complimentary coffee and donuts, provided by Scooter’s Coffee. In honor of Veterans Day, Scooter’s Coffee will also be offering veterans a free medium drink on Nov. 11 at their Sterling Heights location (39890 Van Dyke Ave).
The Sterling Heights Veterans Day Ceremony is organized in collaboration with local veterans’ groups. Join us for this heartfelt tribute as we express our deepest gratitude to those who have served our country and honor the unveiling of this important new memorial.
