Bicycle tour in Detroit to raise funds for homeless services

Registration is open for an annual bicycle tour benefiting Detroit’s homeless.

The Neighborhood Service Organization’s 2016 Handlebars for the Homeless Bicycle Tour starts at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The event covers about 17 miles in and around northwest Detroit. Riders will pedal through some of the city’s most beautiful neighborhoods.

Organizers say participants also will have the opportunity to “see the community at ground-level” and “learn more about the challenges that face the more than 15,000 homeless individuals living on the streets of Detroit each day.”

The NSO provides services and outreach for children, adults and families. It also provides permanent supportive housing, a respite center for the homeless and mobile outreach for the homeless.

Proceeds from the tour will benefit the NSO Homeless Recovery Services unit.
