Auditions for Grosse Pointe Theatre’s Purdon Studio Theatre production, Moonglow will be held at 315 Fisher Road in Grosse Pointe on Saturday, December 10, from 1:00 – 4:00 PM and Sunday, December 11, from 1:00-4:00 PM. Play Synopsis

In this comic-drama, Michigan playwright Kim Carney blends her trademark humor with exquisite pathos. Moonglow tells the story of Diane, who is moving her mother, Maxine into an assisted living facility. A tough-as-nails spitfire determined not to go quietly, Maxine causes a ruckus, finds a jitterbugging partner and teaches her daughter a valuable lesson. This beautifully crafted story is filled with humor and love.

Rehearsals and Show Dates

Show rehearsals begin beginning December 13. Rehearsals will be held at 315 Fisher Road in Grosse Pointe on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Show dates are February 17-19 & 24-26, 2012, with possible additional performances March 2-4, 2012. Moonglow will performed at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House Activities Center in Grosse Pointe Woods

Moonglow Characters:

BENITA:   30s – Supervisor of the Alzheimer’s facility. Capable, warm and possessing the humor and understanding that is essential in her job.

DIANE:  40s – A divorced mother who is overwhelmed and frustrated by her mother’s condition.

YOUNG GIRL:  18-20s – A lively teenage bobby-soxer who speaks in ‘40s slang and loves to jitterbug.

MAXINE:  60-70s – A bitter, cantankerous elderly woman who is capable of physical violence. Underneath she is extremely frightened and confused by her condition.

JOE:  60-70s – A vital, easy-going man in his seventies or eighties. He has a wicked sense of humor and a very proud spirit.

GREG:  40-50s Joe’s son, the divorced father of two teenage girls. Uptight and angry, he has a strong sense of family obligation and is continually frustrated by the old man’s refusal to be dependent on him.

THE SAILOR: 20s – A handsome and cheerful man, he wears a white World War II era uniform and loves to dance.

Grosse Pointe Theatre Membership

This is a community theatre production and actors are unpaid, but head shots, costumes, makeup and refreshments are provided. Actors must be members of Grosse Pointe Theatre to perform in the show. Annual dues are $30.
