Sure, two-day delivery is great, but how fast is possible when it comes to your Amazon order? Metro Detroiters may be about to find out.
Amazon Logistics announced it will open a new Michigan delivery station, located in Sterling Heights. The new station is meant to “power up” Amazon’s last-mile delivery capabilities to speed up deliveries for customers in Metro Detroit.

“Obviously Sterling Heights represents a significant customer base for Amazon, which certainly influenced their decision to select our city as the site for this delivery station,” said Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor. “But the skilled workforce we enjoy here was also a major contributing factor. Our skilled labor in Southeast Michigan, particularly in Sterling Heights, is second to none. We are delighted Amazon has chosen Sterling Heights as home to one of the first delivery stations in the county.”
Delivery stations enable Amazon Logistics to supplement capacity and flexibility to Amazon’s delivery capabilities, the company says. Additionally, the station will create hundreds of full- and part-time jobs, paying a minimum of $15 per hour and offering benefits to independent contractors.
Amazon has also pledged to invest over $700 million to provide skill upgrade training for 100,000 U.S. employees for in-demand jobs. “Programs will help Amazonians from all backgrounds access training to move into highly skilled roles across the company’s corporate offices, tech hubs, fulfillment centers, retails stores, and transportation network, or pursue career paths outside of Amazon,” the company says.
