The Red Arrows Are Coming — Thunder Over Michigan, July 17–19

If you hear the roar of jet engines this weekend, don’t be surprised—it may be one of the world’s most famous aerobatic teams soaring overhead. Thunder Over Michigan returns to Willow Run Airport July 17–19 with one of its most exciting lineups ever, highlighted by the Royal Air Force Red Arrows making their first North American appearance since 2019.

Known around the world for their breathtaking precision flying and distinctive red aircraft, the Red Arrows perform complex aerial maneuvers with incredible timing and accuracy. Their appearance is expected to draw aviation enthusiasts from across the Midwest and beyond, making this one of the biggest aviation events of the summer.

The excitement doesn’t stop there. Visitors will also enjoy demonstrations by the U.S. Air Force F-16 Viper Demo Team and the U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey Demo Team. Throughout the weekend, guests can explore vintage military aircraft, tour impressive ground displays, meet pilots and aviation crews, and even purchase rides in historic airplanes. Evening performances conclude with dramatic pyrotechnics that combine light, sound, and aviation into an unforgettable experience.

Beyond the entertainment, Thunder Over Michigan also supports an important mission. Proceeds benefit the Yankee Air Museum, helping preserve aviation history and educate future generations about America’s military and aerospace heritage.

Families planning to attend should arrive early, since parking fills quickly. Bring sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, bottled water, and hearing protection for young children. Cameras and binoculars are also highly recommended—you’ll want to capture these spectacular moments.

Whether you’re a lifelong aviation enthusiast or simply looking for an exciting family outing, Thunder Over Michigan offers a weekend of inspiration that truly encourages everyone to “look up.”
