For many young people, summer can either become six weeks of boredom — or six weeks that help shape the future. A new opportunity from the Joique Bell Charity is aiming to make this summer one filled with confidence, friendships, learning, and real-life inspiration for Detroit and Metro Detroit students.
Enrollment is now open for the Joique Bell Charity Summer Program, a completely free six-week experience for students entering grades 6 through 9. The full-day summer program includes mentorship, field trips, sports activities, team-building, hands-on learning, and daily breakfast and lunch — all designed to help young people grow mentally, socially, and physically.
Former Joique Bell says the heart behind the program is giving young people exposure to new opportunities and helping them believe in themselves. “When young people can see different paths and have people around them who believe in them, it shifts how they think about their future,” Bell shared.
This isn’t just about keeping students busy during the summer months. Organizers say the goal is to create a positive environment where students feel encouraged, challenged, and supported. Participants will experience mentorship sessions, athlete day activities, interactive learning, and opportunities to build leadership skills while making new friends from around Metro Detroit.
For parents, the program also provides something deeply valuable: a safe, structured place for young people during the summer at no cost. With many families facing rising childcare expenses, programs like this can make a huge difference for households looking for meaningful opportunities for their children.
The Joique Bell Charity has spent more than 16 years serving youth in Metro Detroit through mentorship, education, and outreach efforts. This summer program continues that mission by helping students discover their potential and see new possibilities for their future. Registration is now open, but space is limited and enrollment closes during the last week of May. Families can learn more and sign up at Joique Bell Charity.
