Community Exhibits and Local Events Inspire Neighborhood Pride

The Detroit Historical Museum continues to be a gathering place for celebration, learning, and civic pride through its ongoing series of community exhibits and neighborhood-focused events.

This summer, the museum is highlighting “Hotter Than July,” a long-running Detroit celebration of Black LGBTQ+ culture, activism, and community. The exhibit explores the event’s powerful legacy while honoring Detroiters who have shaped its history and spirit.

In addition to this feature, the museum regularly rotates local exhibits that spotlight the people, neighborhoods, and industries that have defined Detroit’s past and continue to shape its future. Visitors can engage with interactive displays, storytelling events, and community-led programs that reflect the real experiences of Detroit residents.

From historical deep dives into Detroit’s automotive and music scenes to present-day neighborhood partnerships, the museum is committed to lifting up local voices and inspiring civic pride across generations.

Admission is free for many events, and the museum remains one of the city’s most welcoming spaces for school trips, family outings, and thoughtful reflection on what it means to be a Detroiter.
