All actors, singers, dancers, and gymnasts of all genders are welcome to audition for Grosse Pointe Theatre’s production of Disney’s Newsies the Musical, which will be performed May 3-12 at Parcells Auditorium in Grosse Pointe Woods. There are several roles for young and older characters.
Director and Co-Choreographer Timothy Higgins and his talented production team are thrilled to present Disney’s Newsies to the metro Detroit region.
“Grosse Pointe Theatre is one of the first community theatres in the region to perform Newsies and we look forward to welcoming the diverse talent metro Detroit is blessed to have,” said Higgins. “The wonderful songs, electrifying dance movements, and compelling storyline will touch every heart.”
Inspired by the Newspaper Strike of 1899 in New York City, Newsies is the musically packed tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy who led a group of teenage newsies to take on powerful publishing giants to fight for fair conditions. With the Tony Award-winning team of Alan Menken, music, and Jack Feldman, lyrics; book by Harvey Fierstein, and based on the Disney Film written by Bob Tzudiker and Noni White, Newsies is a powerful, inspiring, joyful, and entertaining musical with a timeless message of justice and fairness for all.
Disney’s Newsies is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
