With the simultaneous opening this weekend of two major exhibitions, the Detroit Institute of Arts is celebrating its city as one that has long been recognized as the center of the American automotive industry; a city with a long and storied relationship with its laborers; a city that treasures the musical style that pulsed through its iconic music halls.
Detroit Style: Car Design in the Motor City, 1950-2020; and Russ Marshall: Detroit Photographs, 1958–2008 both open Sunday in separate galleries within the museum. They celebrate art forms within the Motown community over the last six decades.
