Jocelyn Rainey’s passion sparked an idea, and that idea led to a field trip which transformed the lives of a group of Detroit high school students forever.
in 2007, Rainey wanted her art class at Loyola High School to see the original artwork they were replicating; one of the pieces they were studying was the Mona Lisa, which hangs in the Louvre in Paris.
Many of the students had heard of the Mona Lisa — the most recognizable piece of art in the world — but few had actually seen the painting in person.
So Rainey, asked her students a privotal question: Do you want to go on a field trip?
That question birthed the “Finding Mona Lisa Program 313” program and has swept about 100 Detroit teens off to 10 countries thus far.
