A black and white van with a big yellow stripe will be at upcoming metro Detroit events this year as a mobile beacon for things to do here. Next year, the “D-Rover” moves to other regions of Michigan, and on to Ohio and Illinois.
He unveiled the D-Rover van shortly after 11 a.m. Friday in Campus Martius Park, where “Discover the D Hometown Tourist Day” was underway. Alexander said the “mobile visitor center” van has two video screens and is the “newest Detroit ambassador,” offering guides, maps and more for metro Detroit. “We’re not just relying on people choosing to visit metro Detroit on their own,” said Larry Alexander, president and CEO of the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We’re now going to go out looking for them and encourage them to come and visit.”
