Muralists are spreading color across the city as more building owners are offering up outdoor canvasses to artists.
Three separate mural projects launched in Detroit and Highland Park on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Eastern Market is preparing for its second annual mural festival in September.
In Highland Park on Thursday, a group of 23 teenage artists from Spain, South Africa, New York, Germany and the Palestinian Territories visited Ohana Gardens to create a community mural that blends different languages and cultural elements.
New York nonprofit Breaking Walls brought the international group together to create a dialogue of unity through art, said Fran Tarr, the group’s founder.
“There’s such a spirit of renewal and reemergence (in Detroit),” Tarr said. “I felt like that would be a good vibe for us. The community has embraced us in a way that no other community has. This has been spectacular.”
